The Diazyme Kappa & Lambda Free Light Chain Key Opinion Leader (KOL) event took place on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, at the McCormick Place Convention Center. This educational session, titled “Conference Kick-off with Kappa and Lambda: An In-Depth Workshop on Immunological Significance and Clinical Applications,” attracted a diverse group of medical professionals eager to explore the latest research and clinical applications of Kappa and Lambda free light chains (FLC).
Event Highlights: Understanding Kappa and Lambda Free Light Chains
The workshop kicked off Tuesday morning providing attendees with valuable insights into the clinical relevance of FLC testing. The event featured two expert speakers who shared their extensive knowledge on the topic.
1. Interpretation of Free Light Chain Results with Reference to Biological Variation – Dr. Alan Wu
Dr. Alan Wu, a leading expert from San Francisco General Hospital, opened the session with an insightful presentation on interpreting FLC results. He emphasized the importance of understanding biological variation when assessing FLCs and provided practical strategies for integrating this knowledge into clinical practice. Dr. Wu’s expertise in laboratory medicine was evident as he guided attendees through the complexities of FLC testing, offering actionable insights for improving patient care.
2. Free Monoclonal Immunoglobulin Light Chains – Dr. Gurmukh Singh
Following Dr. Wu’s presentation, Dr. Gurmukh Singh from the Medical College of Georgia’s Department of Pathology delivered an engaging talk on the immunological significance of free monoclonal immunoglobulin light chains. Dr. Singh explored how these biomarkers are used in diagnosing and monitoring hematological disorders such as multiple myeloma. He also highlighted recent advancements in FLC detection and quantification, making the case for their critical role in modern clinical practice.
