Sarcosine Oxidase (EC 1.5.3.1)
Sarcosine Oxidase catalyzes the oxidation reaction converting
sarcosine to glycine and formaldehyde as shown below:
Sarcosine + O2 +
H2O → Glycine + Formaldehyde + H2O2
The enzyme is purified from a microorganism. The molecular
weight of the enzyme is about 65,000. The enzyme is useful for the enzymatic
determination of creatinine, creatine and sarcosine when coupled
with other related enzymes for clinical diagnostic tests.
