β-Galactosidase catalyzes the following reaction:
β-D-Galactosidase + H2O → D-Galactosidase + ROH
The recombinant enzyme has a molecular weight of 118 kDa. The enzyme is stable from pH 5.5 to 9.5. The optimum pH is 7.0.
